26 Western Gailes
This is one of the many excellent Ayrshire links golf courses. It is located 5 minutes north of Troon and 10 minutes from Prestwick. It provides stunning views over the Firth of Clyde and towards the Island of Arran.
Although it is in illustrious company in this area with the likes of Prestwick, Turnberry and Royal Troon, it has a reputation as one of the finest examples of a true Scottish links course.
There is plenty of heather, gorse and wispy grass to ensnare your ball. The wind of course, adds to these formidable hazards. The course is set in between sand dunes on a narrow strip of land between the railway line and the sea. There are sandy dunes, plenty of pot bunkers, three burns and a ditch that cross the course seven times in total and finally small greens - very testing!
Western Gailes has hosted the Curtis Cup, PGA Championship, British Seniors, Scottish Boys Championships and the Ladies Home Internationals. This is a British Open Qualifying course for the British Open when it is being held at Turnberry or Troon.
For 2000, lunch in the clubhouse, is included in the cost of the green fee.
